Answers
What is considered a "war-time period"?
These are time periods designated by the Department of Defense:
Persian Gulf Era: August 2, 1990 to a date to be set by law or presidential proclamation
Vietnam Era: August 5, 1964 to May 7, 1975
-- OR –-
February 28, 1961 for veterans who served "in country" before August 5, 1964
Korean Conflict: June 27, 1950 to January 31, 1955
WWII: December 25, 1941 to December 31, 1946
What are the general eligibility criteria for Veterans Administration (VA) benefits?
Eligibility for most VA benefits is based on separation from active military service with other than a dishonorable condition. Active service means full-time service, other than active duty for training.
I’ve lost my DD-214; can I get another one?
Yes, we can help you file for it.
How can I get services from the VA medical system?
If you have a discharge other than a dishonorable discharge or a bad conduct discharge issued by a general courts-martial, we can provide you with VA form 1010EZ – Application for Health Benefits – that you can file at the VA hospital along with your DD-214.
Are you the VA?
No. We are representatives of the City and County of Denver, authorized by the VA to assist veterans in filing for and receiving benefits.
Where can I get additional information from the VA?
Start by looking on the VA FAQ page
Do you have specific services for homeless vets?
Yes, the Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program (HVRP) can help.

Do I qualify as a homeless veteran if I am staying with family or friends?
Yes. The definition of homeless for our purposes is that you do not own property or a home, or are not renting (have a lease in your name) a home or an apartment. If you are staying from place to place, in your vehicle, at a motel, or in shelters or a half way house, you qualify as homeless under the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP).
Will the HVRP help me find a job?
Yes. Once you are enrolled in the program, we will assist you in seeking and obtaining employment through job referrals and through the Denver Economic Workforce Development Center.
How do I get around the city to look for employment?
The HVRP will provide transportation options as long as you are actively seeking employment.
